When Obama was campaigning, he promised to bring change, and that is exactly what he did to the White House website www.whitehouse.gov which now runs on Drupal. While things may not look different on the outside, you can expect to see many changes over time as they start plugging in some of the thousands of modules that users around the world have created.
Drupal is a flexible open source content management system (CMS) that is built by thousands of people around the world and used by millions every day. The software runs sites as diverse as corporate web sites, community web portals, personal websites, e-commerce businesses, social networking sites and more. The beauty of Drupal is in its flexibility and ability to change anything to suite the client's needs.
This is a great win for Drupal, and a further recognition in the value that it brings. But this just the latest in a long list of big names that are using Drupal, including the United Nations, Warner Bros Recordings, GreenPeace UK, Harvard University, Yahoo and many more. It's not just the corporate world using Drupal: MotoGP, Bob Dylan, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Lopez.
There has been a lot of talk over here from the government about accelerating the use of open source software. Tom Watson MP, minister for digital engagement said back in February that public services should avoid being "locked into proprietary software". The shift to open source software could save the government over £600m a year. Both sides of the political spectrum have been pushing for this, with George Osborne recently calling for more use of open source software.
We are huge fans of Drupal and have been building Drupal sites for our clients, big and small. With Drupal you can easily make changes to your website to bring you and your customers closer together.
